The goal		A Short Guide to the French Novel is an intense, two-semester course in the history of the novel, whose goal is to introduce undergraduate students to the key actors and most important works of nineteenth-century French prose.

Contents
Contents of lectures		(I) Introductory classes (prof. Elez and prof. Dušanić): placing the French novel on the European map. (II) First semester (prof. Dušanić): Stendhal, Balzac, and the birth of the "classic" nineteenth-century novel. An overview of the main topics, stylistic features, and narrative strategies in their main works.
Contents of exercises		Close reading and discussion of the texts. The application of theoretical insights on chosen examples from Stendhal's and Balzac's works.
