    The goal The goal is to familiarize students with the socio-political and literary situation during the period of the activities of the Slovak National Union and realism, as well as to inform students about the main tendencies in the development of poetry, prose and drama in the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries and the main representatives of realism in Slovak literature.
    The outcome The student acquires knowledge about the main features of Slovak literature of the second half of the 19th century and the ability to interpret representative realist works. The student develops the ability to read and analyze poetic, prose and dramatic texts in the Slovak language.
    Contents
    Contents of lectures Introduction to the socio-political situation after the revolution of 1848/49 (Bach's absolutism, the founding and work of the Slovak National Theatre) and to the changes in literature in the transitional period between Romanticism and Realism; the circumstances and stages of the development of realistic literature (Martinski centar, Hlasisti),representative works of literature of the period of origin, both idealistic and critical realism, and the most significant authors.
    Contents of exercises Examples of prose and dramatic works of literature of the main period and an indication of their transitional character; representative works of the main representatives of idealistic and critical realism (S. H. Vajanski, P. O. Hviezdoslav, M. Kukuchin, B. S. Timrava, T. Vansova, J. G. Tajovski, J. Čajak, G. M. Petrovski, VHV).
