      The goal Acquiring knowledge about the origins and fundamental characteristics of the picaresque genre through texts from key picaresque works spanning the centuries; a general overview of the genre's characteristics and the realistic literary technique.
      The outcome The student is familiar with the specific characteristics of the picaresque genre; develops the ability to explain the relationships within the Spanish picaresque tradition and the presence of the picaresque genre in other European national literatures; discusses the boundaries of the picaresque genre with well-reasoned arguments; and analyzes representative texts of the picaresque genre using a multidisciplinary approach.

      Contents of lectures The picaresque genre and the picaresque novel. The origins and development of the picaresque. Precursors to the picaresque genre in Spain. The significance of realism in the emergence and evolution of the Spanish picaresque novel. *Lazarillo de Tormes*: the prototype of the picaresque novel and/or a Renaissance Erasmian satire. Cervantes and the picaresque. The Spanish picaresque novel in the first half of the 17th century. Mateo Alemán, *Guzmán de Alfarache*; Francisco de Quevedo, *Historia de la vida del Buscón*. Other representatives.
